The Colt Collectors Association, in celebration of its 30th anniversary, sponsored a special exhibition at the 2010 NRA Annual Show in Charlotte, North Carolina. The theme of the display was Colt-Pioneer in Firearms Innovation, CCA Preserving the Legacy. The educational display profiled a look at some of the innovations of Samuel Colt and the Colt Firearms Company during a period of transition from percussion ignition systems to the self contained metallic cartridge.
The exhibit included three displays designed to cover this segment in the history for firearms and ammunition development undertaken by Colt and other pioneers in the firearms industry.
The first display: Early single Action (era 1859-1875) ‘’Transition from Cap and Ball Percussion Ignition to Self Contained Metallic Cartridges’’. Sample firearms and ammunition included in this display was a .44 rim fire Henry Repeating Rifle, an experimental (one of a kind) Colt 3rd. Model Dragoon, Colt Model 1871-72 .44 caliber rim-fire ‘’Open Top’’ revolver, a first year production Single Action Army 1875 ‘’Rim Fire’’ revolver.
The second part of the display profiled ‘’The Guns That Won the American West’’, by Colt and their Allies, using common cartridges. The third segment displayed the modern double actions ‘’Snakes by Colt’’ –the ‘’Best of the Best’’.
The CCA also profiled the 2010 Tulsa, Oklahoma Show Gun. This fine show piece will also be auctioned on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Annual All Colt Show.
