Each year at the annual convention an auction is held Saturday evening just prior to the Banquet (but in a different room) to raise funds to help pay for the cost associated with the convention. Also it provides a fun activity in which each member can participate by either buying or selling, and the CCA receives a commission as stated in the Auction Rules. Many of the items are donated by members and the CCA keeps the proceeds to increase the funds raised. Items generally sell between $50 - $250 for Colt related memorabilia to $5,000 or higher for a Colt firearm and we limit the number of items in the auction to 60 because of time restraints. The last item in the auction is always the CCA Show Gun especially prepared by Colt for the Auction. Each year since 1984 we have auctioned off a Show Gun ranging in price from $1,500 in 1985 to $125,000 in 2006.
Any member wishing to participate should review the Auction Rules posted on this website and then look for the auction tables at the back of the Convention room. We receive items starting on Thursday until Saturday at noon or until we reach the limit of 60. You can stroll by any time you wish to view the items already placed in the auction or to simply fill out the consignment form provided at the table to place an item in the auction. You must be a current member of CCA to participate in either buying or selling. We accept cash or check for payment but no credit cards. If you have any questions, a CCA worker behind the table will be happy to get you an answer from the Auction Master if they don't already know it.
The annual Colt Show Gun is the high light of the auction and usually creates a packed room. The Show Gun will be on display near the front of the convention room up until auction time. Each year the "buzz" of the convention room for 3 days is "who will buy the Show Gun and how much will it sell for". When the auction closes, the high bidder for the Show Gun is swarmed by many people with congratulations for buying such a beautiful work of art and the cameras are flashing to get pictures of not only the high bidder but the Colt executives that are present and the various artist that created the master piece. It is an exciting time for everyone present.
